Dr. Sandra L. Glahn
Sandra Glahn (PhD, UTD) is Professor of Media Arts and Worship at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). She holds a Master of Theology (ThM) degree from DTS and a PhD in The Humanities–Aesthetic Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. Glahn is a journalist and the author or coauthor of more than twenty books, including the Coffee Cup Bible Study series (AMG) and Nobody’s Mother: Artemis of the Ephesians in Antiquity and the New Testament (IVP Academic). She is a frequent podcast guest and retreat speaker whose areas of expertise include Artemis, Ephesus, Bible books and backgrounds, women’s history and issues, the history of ideas about gender, sexuality and ethics, and writing for publication.

Dr. Sandra Glahn is Professor of Media Arts and Worship at Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). She holds a Master of Theology (ThM) degree from DTS and a PhD in The Humanities–Aesthetic Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Glahn is the author or coauthor of more than twenty books. These include twelve titles in The Coffee Cup Bible Study series, featuring AMG’s Mocha on the Mount, Espresso with Esther, Java with the Judges, Solomon Latte, Cappuccino with Colossians, Premium Roast with Ruth, Frappe with Philippians, Kona with Jonah, Sumatra with the Seven Churches, Chai with Malachi, Earl Grey with Ephesians, and Latte with Luke. She is also the author of the medical suspense novel Informed Consent (Cook), and a short non-fiction work, The City of Ephesus: A Short History.
Dr. Glahn served as the general editor of Vindicating the Vixens: Revisiting Sexualized, Vilified, and Marginalized Women of the Bible (Kregel Academic) and co-general editor of Sanctified Sexuality: Valuing Sex in an Oversexed World (Kregel Academic). Her coauthored works include When Empty Arms Become a Heavy Burden: Encouragement for Couples Facing Infertility (Kregel, 2nd ed), Sexual Intimacy in Marriage (4rd ed; Kregel; more than 100,000 copies in print), Lethal Harvest (Kregel, a CBA best-selling Christy fiction finalist), Deadly Cure (Kregel), False Positive (WaterBrook/Random House), The Infertility Companion (Zondervan/Christian Medical Association), and The Contraception Guidebook: Options, Risks, and Answers for Christian Couples (Zondervan/Christian Medical Association), re-released by Authenticity Book House as Control? Dr. Glahn has contributed to a number of additional works, including Genetic Engineering: A Christian Response (Kregel), The Making of a Mentor (Authentic), Insight for Living’s Bible Companion for Women (IFL), Life Savors for Women (Tyndale), Simple Little Words (Cook), Daily Seeds from Women Who Walk in Faith (Moody), A Faith and Culture Devotional (Zondervan), God Encounters (Howard/Simon & Schuster), and Tending the Soul: 90 Days of Spiritual Nourishment (Moody), and A Pessoa No Espelho: Uma anthropologist bíblica. For seventeen years, Dr. Glahn also served as editor in chief for DTS’s flagship magazine, Kindred Spirit.
Glahn is president of the Evangelical Press Association and is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS), the Institute for Biblical Research (IBR), and the Christian Authors Network (CAN). She is a regular contributing blogger at Engage, the bible.org women’s leadership site. She has led retreats as well as seminars and workshops on Artemis of the Ephesians, views of women in ministry leadership, women in the visual record of the church, marriage, intimacy, #MeToo, purity culture, infertility, rest, writing, and a variety of biblical books and topics. Of particular interest to her is the subject of first-century women’s backgrounds and their ramifications for the New Testament text.
Dr. Glahn and her husband, Gary, have been married for more than forty years, and they have a married adult daughter, who joined their family through adoption. She and her husband have one child.
Dr. Glahn’s areas of academic interest include the following: the history of ideas about gender, women in antiquity, women’s history, medieval art and spirituality, creative writing, writing for publication, The Inklings, homiletics, hermeneutics, international women’s issues, literature, fiction, bioethics, reproductive technologies, sexual intimacy in marriage, infertility/pregnancy loss, and mentoring.
The following courses are part of Dr. Glahn’s regular teaching assignments at DTS: Medieval Art and Spirituality (biennially on location in Italy); British Authors/Biblical Themes (biennially on location in the UK); Calvin Festival for readers and writers (biennially in Grand Rapids); Creative Writing; Theological and Biblical Foundations for Women in Ministry Leadership; Writing for Publication; Sexuality and Ethics; and supervision of graduate-level independent studies in women’s history, the arts, theology of the body, and writing or gender-related topics.
