Taco Joint Surprise
Yesterday I attended a meeting to talk about the DTS women students' retreat, which I've been asked to keynote next spring. And the chair of the retreat committee took me to Taco Joint. I pass this place daily on my way to DTS. How have I remained oblivious for so long?
We had to get there before noon to get the second-to-last parking place in the lot. (Overflow parking spills over onto the street.) If the Joint filled up that fast on a Monday, I'll bet Friday's a bear.
Taco Joint specializes in Tex-Mex for breakfast. But my lunchtime fish tacos with spicy sauce disappeared faster than I want to admit (though I hear "Disaster Queso" is the thing to order).
The tacky decor added to the ambiance. Every inch of wall and ceiling sported album covers, movie posters, and photos from the 1970s and 80's. I saw Tom Hanks starring in "Big," Donny Osmond and MJ in their early years, and John Travolta in a velvet suit. But Taco Joint's clear fave is Dallasite Chuck Norris.
I prefer a privately owned restaurant to a chain any day. Especially if the price is right and the location rocks. In the words of a well-known 1970s movie star, "I'll be ba-a-a-ack."
