How Many Gamete Donor Kids Out There?

The Donor Sibling Registry is calling for a halt on the figures of 30,000-60,000 U.S. sperm donor births annually. The 30,000 figure is a 1988 estimate from the Office of Technology Assessment. Now more than twenty-five years later, we're still using this number, which has been padded to account for the passage of time. The reality? We have no idea how many kids are born annually to parents using sperm or egg donation, and we have no real way at this point of keeping track.
