Golf Flick

Got a review copy of "Seven Days in Utopia" and watched it with my husband last night. It has a thin plot: Golfer with temper messes up his game and rediscovers it during a week in small-town Texas. Robert Duvall, a terrific actor, carries the film. The script-writing is awful in places; and a lot of the acting, marginal. Safe for kids. Full of good values and pretty scenery (though as someone who has lived in Oregon, I found it tough to swallow the characters' exclamation that the Texas scenery is "magnificent!"). I wanted to like this film. Really, I did. And it wasn't a total waste of two hours. But "Seven Days in Utopia" is unlikely to be anybody's "favorite film ever." Sorry. Two stars.
