A Different Shade of Normal
Do you ever hear voices and see people who aren't actually there? I don't. But my friend and former student, Jacob Glidewell, does. Jacob has schizophrenia. And in his new e-book, A Different Shade of Normal, he talks about traversing behind the “thin scrim of glittery, cotton-like fog” into the world of delusion. His work provides mental, interpersonal, theological, and medical reflections for patients who suffer from schizophrenia and those who love them.
Some of his book is downright entertaining. Here's an example of his style: "Mr. Stewart told us that he wouldn’t tell my parents and he didn’t. He told his wife who then told my parents who then grounded me for two months. I didn’t get to do any family activities, I didn’t get to have what my mother called 'mandatory outside time,' and I didn’t get to go to church choir or youth. All I could do was sit in my room, play with my toys, or read my books. It was like heaven."
A Different Shade of Normal is available on Kindle (Amazon), iPhone, in Word, and lots of other formats, and right now it costs only 99 cents to download. Check it out.
