Johnny, Bono, MoMa, and American Girl
Though we flew home Wednesday night, we still had most of the day to play in the city.
So we grabbed some mocha and pumpkin bread at Starbucks and caught the express subway to downtown. I wanted to see the MoMa, but A. mostly wanted her photo made with Johnny and Miley (she was okay with the wax versions). So we compromised and did both. First Madame Tussaud's. Then the modern art museum.
In the same way a photo can't quite capture a sunset, film just doesn't do justice to "Starry Night." Van Gogh's brilliant colors enhanced by the texture took my breath away.
After touring the museum, we took a load off our feet in the courtyard by the fountains. Then we headed back down 5th Avenue to check out the American Girl store. It was fun to watch moms and grandmothers with their little girls and fave dolls wearing matching outfits and hair styles.
When our time ran out, we caught the subway back to Amanda's flat, packed up, hailed a cab, and wound our way back to LaGuardia.
As we took off at 9:20 PM, the sun below the horizon reflected off low-lying clouds so the horizon looked like an ocean of deep orange fire with black sand in the foreground. The Master Artist gave us a grand finale. Goodbye, New York, and good night!
