A little good news
I finally finished reading Proust's Remembrance of Things Past/Swann's Way. Whew! Now on to Sister Carrie (1900). It's a novel by Theodore Dreiser about a bored country girl who moves to the big city to live with her sister’s family and find work. There she realizes her own American Dream by first becoming a mistress to men that she considers superior and later as an acclaimed actress.
This makes yet another book with a bad-girl protagonist. Proust had a bi-sexual courtesan character, then there was Madame Bovary, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Moll Flanders...seems to be a recurring theme. Hm-m-m.
This new protagonist is nothing like my own sister, Carrie.
Speaking of whom...yesterday as she was on her way to the Washington State capitol, she got a call about having her family's story on Oprah's "no phone zone." That's supposed to happen tomorrow!
FRIDAY UPDATE: The Oprah show hit a delay to give more time to put together the segment. I'll keep you posted as to date/time when we know more.
