Makeover Time

Spring seemed like a good time for a little makeover. Hope you like the new look.

With the children out of school, my friend Kelley and I went to the zoo Friday. On the way there we missed our exit, had a flat tire, and then the car battery died. (I overdid the A/C trying to keep four kids from overheating.) Thanks to answered prayer, cell phones, a kind stranger, our taxes paying for courtesy roadside service, and my husband's quick response to our distress call, we were on our way again within the hour. For the kids it was merely an adventure. For the grownups, not so much. But Kelley is as steady under pressure as anybody I know. She didn't even cast her eyes heavenward or exhale loudly. (More than I can say for myself.) She's a cool chick. You can read more about it on her blog.

I saw my physician this week about the clavicle. (It's been six months since my surgery.) Doc says my healing is at about ninety-five percent. I did a crawl stroke and a back stroke for half a pool-length last week for the first time. Endurance is lousy, but range of motion has improved lots. The main thing I need to regain: the ability to reach high up behind me to scratch my back or grab a zipper--usually the last part to heal, he said.

I start class this week. Summer school in my PhD program. This time around: A course in the poetry of T. S. Eliot and William Carlos Williams. Look for snippets from stuff like "The Waste Land" in the near future.

On Thursday morning, I'll be talking on KCBI 90.9 FM in Dallas during morning drive time at 6:40 AM. If you're local and unfortunate enough to be up that early, join me on the airwaves. Topic of discussion: My new Coffee Cup Bible Series. Women in church history. Women in the Bible. Whatever they want to talk about!
