The Millennials
Got a Kindle? Right now B&H Publishing Group is offering a free download (till noon on June 20) of The Millennials: Connecting to America’s Largest Generation. The book is by popular research author Dr. Thom Rainer (Simple Church) and his son Jess, a Millennial. (If you don't have a Kindle, keep reading anyway.)
I'm particularly interested in the topic of this book, because I'm raising a Millennial.
The research it contains is based on 1,200 interviews. The Rainers focused on older Millennials (b. 1980-1991), because kids my girl's age aren't holding jobs (much), getting married (much), or carrying around credit cards (much). The researchers discovered...
Marriage. Millennials are marrying much later, if at all, than those of earlier generations. In 1970, about 44 percent of 18-25 year old Boomers were married. Today, only 15 percent of Millennials in that age group are married.
Work. 84 percent of Millennials say job success is important. Yet they "just wanta have fun" with their co-workers. They see the need for balance between work and life.
Moolah. My generation indulged. Gen Xers choked themselves in debt. Millennials might be the first generation in modern history to have a balanced view of money.
Religion. Only 13 percent of the Millennials interviewed considered any type of spirituality to be important in their lives, and most say they don’t think about religion at all.
