Last Night in New York

Tuesday night we met Amanda at the Lincoln Center afer she got off work and spent our last night attending a performance of the New York City Ballet. They danced in four separately choreographed pieces with two intermissions.

We toted around our dress-up clothes all day on the Statue of Liberty ferry and at St. Patrick's Cathedral, so we'd have appropriate attire. Must. Wear. Black. And no tennis shoes!
I loved watching some of the best ballet dancers in the world give expression to works by Stravinsky (the musical equivalent to modern art), Tschaikovsky, and Mendelssohn. The Scotch Symphony by the latter had beautiful costumes, but we marveled most over the Stravinsky pieces, wondering how those dancers knew what was co ming next.

After the show, we changed again and walked about twenty blocks to dinner at Cafe Lalo, where a scene in "You've Got Mail" was filmed--the one where Meg Ryan's character gets stood up.
Alexandra was thrilled to find pumpkin pie on the menu in June, but I opted for the three-berry pie. "Yum-o." Amanda had some sort of chocolate with chocolate on top of chocolate concoction. We walked to the subway under the influence of sugar-bliss.

As Amanda wrote on her FB page, Sunday was "Mamma Mia!," Monday was "Screwtape Letters," and Tuesday was the NY City Ballet. "Gimme, gimme, gimme some culture."
