What Else Are You Reading?

Every morning between 2 and 4:30 AM, the NY Times sends me an email with the day's top stories as well as a smattering of opinion pieces. I love that I don't have to go to it--it comes to me. And I like that daily-in-small-doses thing. Today I learned about Bush's Supreme Court pick, the trade deficit with China, and how chapped the clever columnist taking Maureen Dowd's place (she's on book leave) is over Cleveland and Wyoming having so much clout in the electoral college. (Come se dice, get a life?)

I like my news and info in the manageable daily dose, which means blogging should be my forte, huh? Yet I'm fairly illiterate as to what's out there.

To improve my blog literacy, I asked some friends who read in the blogosphere to share their faves.

John’s picks:

Vox Popoli http://voxday.blogspot.com/ Columnist for Worldnet Daily (wnd.com). Writes from a libertarian Christian perspective. Arrogant and hot-headed, but often well thought out, and he has a good grasp of philosophical and military history.

Ranting Room http://rantingroom.blogspot.com/ Science-fiction author Bruce Bethke. Actually coined phrase “cyberpunk” and co-wrote a novel with previous blog's author. His blog is focused on writing, especially Sci-Fi, but I like his personality and openness about the business.

Frontburner http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/ Editors of D Magazine. I read it to keep up with Dallas and because the writer's are witty and clever.

Erin’s picks:

SoulPerSuit http://soulpersuit.blogspot.com/

Mary DeMuth http://relevantblog.blogspot.com/

Mary’s picks:

Katy Raymond http://www.fallible.com/ She writes so well, so authentically.

Lisa Sammons http://lisasamson.typepad.com/author_intrusion/ If you haven’t read a Lisa Samson book, do. Her musings here on the craft are inspiring.

Mick Silva http://www.yourwritersgroup.com/mywritersgroup/ He’s an editor at Focus on the Family and he has great insight into what needs to happen in terms of upping the quality of Christian fiction.

Masters Artist http://www.themastersartist.blogspot.com/ A conglomerate of Christian writers who ruminate about the craft and the Creator.

Kelli Standish http://kellistandishwrites.blogspot.com/ Probably the most laugh-out-loud and wonderfully written blog I read. Her heart spills onto the page in unusual ways.

Feel free to let me know if you have a fave to add to the list.

Next time I plan to post some concerns I have with Ed Wheat's book, Intended for Pleasure. Who wants to believe faulty info about sex? Not me! Stay tuned.
